Qatar says it facilitated second deportation flight of Afghan nationals from Germany

Qatar announced on Friday that it had facilitated the repatriation of a second group of Afghan nationals from Germany.

According to a statement from the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the group of 81 Afghans was returned to Kabul following what officials described as “pivotal diplomatic efforts” and logistical coordination led by Qatar. The flight marks the second such deportation coordinated with Qatari assistance, following the return of 28 individuals in August 2023.

The repatriations, the ministry said, are part of a broader initiative to “establish clear frameworks for safe and orderly returns” while ensuring that returnees are treated with dignity and supported in their reintegration.

Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi, Minister of State at the Foreign Ministry, said a specialized follow-up mechanism would continue to monitor the conditions of returnees, support reintegration, and maintain open communication between all involved parties.

“The sustainability of this initiative depends on continuous engagement,” he said, adding that Qatar remains committed to addressing humanitarian challenges in Afghanistan through dialogue and international cooperation.

Germany resumed deportations of Afghan nationals with criminal records or final removal orders last year. The returns have drawn criticism from rights groups who say Afghanistan remains unsafe for forced returns amid ongoing political repression and humanitarian crisis.
